The Presque Isle District Library, Grand Lake Branch, moved into a new building in 2007.  It is located at the corner of Lake Esau Road and East Grand Lake Road (18132 Lake Esau Rd.), it is directly across from the Grand Lake Chapel and is easily accessed from the Anishinaabe  Bike Trail.  The site would not have been possible to build on if the Grand Lake Chapel Board had not  quit-claimed a narrow strip of  property to the Library.  The design incorporates many energy saving features, including a geo-thermal heating/cooling system, energy saving lighting and extensive use of insulation.  At 5,000 sq. ft., it provides ample space for not only book stacks, but also a conference room for use when the library proper is closed, a children’s area, Friends of the Library/Employee Break room, and high ceilings for bringing in traveling exhibits.  The lounge area at one end of the main area has an energy efficient electrical fire place which provides an ambiance conducive to a relaxing reading atmosphere.  A computer island with computers for patron usage has Internet access for use during Library hours.  Wi-Fi (wireless) access to the Internet is also available throughout the building.   The style of the building is one that reflects the northern atmosphere, with cultured stone, a radial sunburst on the gabled front entrance and natural  colored pine  columns.  A Mission Style is seen throughout the building, from the furnishings to the sconces in the conference room and the grills on the windows.  The rear entrance is finished to provide a welcoming appearance to those entering from the bike path.  The safety of residents was a foremost consideration in the design, with a parking lot ample in size to accommodate more than 20 vehicles,  including handicap parking spaces and off road access to the building entrance. Funding for the Library came from the Banner Family Trust who saw fit to fulfill a need in the community.  The conference room is named after them.  Also, at the end of the stack area, there is a wall-hung replica of a book shelf , with book back bindings naming significant financial donors($500 or more).  The Library phone number remains the same @(989)595-5051, as well as the hours, Tues. & Thurs. 2 PM to 7 PM,  Wed., Fri. & Sat. 10 AM to 2 PM.  Non-profit groups who wish to use the conference room need only to make reservations and arrange to pick up the key from the Grand Lake Librarian.
